This is a PRN (as needed) Registered Nurse position within adult correctional institutions. The role involves utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating) to provide patient care according to standards of practice. Services include 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and basic life support/emergency care. The nurse will document all pertinent information in health records, maintain confidentiality, and interface with other departments as needed. Registered Nurses are expected to delegate tasks and work assigned hours, days, and locations, and be available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional requirements. The position also focuses on providing evidence-based nursing care and promoting continued competence through education and certification, with an emphasis on correctional nursing. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet clinical and administrative needs. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
