About The Position

This role sits within the Data Analytics and Data Engineering team, serving as the cloud infrastructure authority for our enterprise data platform — partnering closely with data engineers, analytics engineers, and business intelligence teams to ensure the cloud foundation powering our data ecosystem is secure, scalable, and built to last. From data ingestion and pipeline infrastructure to analytics platforms and reporting services, this engineer plays a critical role in shaping the AWS environment that drives data-informed decision making across the enterprise. The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer is an exceptional and influential thought leader and driver of Cloud Engineering across Enterprise IT and Business IT, spanning Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) implementations. This role serves as the primary technical interface to business leaders, senior executives, and product teams — leading design thinking, establishing cloud strategy, and driving cloud transformation across infrastructure, platforms, applications, and data services. The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer champions secure-by-design principles, leads vulnerability remediation, and establishes engineering best practices that elevate the capabilities of engineering teams across IT. Projects are led with a focus on adhering to and engineering within established guiding principles, platforms, and standards, while continuously driving innovation and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of infrastructure or software engineering experience, with 5+ years focused on cloud technologies, platforms, and transformation across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cloud transformation strategy, including migrating enterprise workloads from traditional data center infrastructure to hybrid or fully cloud-enabled architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud security best practices including least-privilege access, encryption, secrets management, network segmentation, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience with DevOps/SecOps methodologies and integrating security practices throughout the software development and infrastructure lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers, elevating team capabilities across a broad IT organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to and influence senior executives and business leaders.
  • Critical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with IT leadership, lead the cloud transformation strategy — establishing and driving cloud direction across infrastructure, platforms, applications, and data services spanning IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS implementations.
  • Champion secure-by-design principles across all cloud engineering efforts, owning the identification, prioritization, and remediation of infrastructure security vulnerabilities.
  • Coach DevOps/SecOps methodology throughout the organization, enforcing best practices for access, encryption, secrets management, and network segmentation — and bridging technical risk discussions with Legal, Compliance, and Audit teams.
  • Mentor, guide, and teach engineers across IT as they solve and navigate complex problems in a changing technology landscape, elevating capabilities through design reviews, knowledge sharing, and hands-on coaching.
  • Serve as the primary technical focal point for internal and external stakeholders on cloud engineering tasks, providing estimates of feasibility, time, and effort while monitoring projects and proactively resolving risks.
  • Ensure standards and procedures are followed during the design and implementation of cloud and information systems, defining improvements that increase reliability, security, and performance across cloud platforms.
  • Perform root cause analysis on complex infrastructure issues, act as liaison to business units on changing needs, and provide regular status updates to management, highlighting risks and progress.
