The Principal Automation Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly, machining, and inspection processes. This role involves designing, specifying, and building assembly and test equipment for production cells, ranging from semi-automated to fully automated. The engineer will also develop and implement maintenance programs for equipment, manage equipment purchases and installations, and prepare manufacturing documentation such as specifications and technical drawings. Key project leadership tasks include Project Kickoff, System Design/Procurement, Programming/Configuration, FAT, SAT/Commissioning, and Close-out Documentation. The position requires managing time and expenses within project budgets, coordinating with external automation integrators, machine shops, and suppliers, and evaluating new device designs for manufacturability (DFA). The role also involves developing systems and layouts that follow lean manufacturing philosophies, providing training and guidance on new equipment, supporting and improving processes using statistical, lean, GMP, and Six Sigma methodologies, fostering continuous improvement, and discussing progress at design/project review meetings.
