About The Position

Washington State University is seeking a Principal Assistant for the Office of the Provost in Spokane, WA. This role serves as a key liaison and provides high-level, complex, and confidential administrative and project management support to the Provost’s Office and its leadership team for the Health Sciences campus. The Principal Assistant is responsible for coordinating executive-level administrative functions, including managing calendars and communications, travel and personnel data management, preparing correspondence and reports, project planning and coordination, data collection and analysis, event and logistics support, preparing budgets, personnel, and contract-related paperwork supporting university-wide initiatives and special projects. This position requires strong independent judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage sensitive information while working in a fast-paced environment in collaboration with academic and administrative partners across the institution. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to take initiative with minimal direction.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible management work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including professional experience in preparing correspondence, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience working in an environment requiring confidentiality.
  • The ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A history of meeting deadlines and providing high-quality work.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with Workday, PeopleAdmin, or another complex enterprise system with an HR and/or Finance module.
  • Experience providing executive-level support to an individual or group of individuals.
  • Fiscal administrative experience relating to budgeting, funding, grants, contracts, purchasing, and/or travel.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity with WSU policies and procedures.
