About The Position

The Principal Architect will provide overall direction and leadership of the development of architectural designs, construction documents and specifications, and may serve as the Architect of Record for assigned projects. This position will be responsible for providing strategic direction, operational excellence and relationship management with all stakeholders for projects where JE Dunn provides professional design services, driving the contracting and business development in order to meet or exceed all design targets. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner
  • Advanced communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to conduct effective presentations
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications
  • Thorough knowledge of project processes and how each supports the successful completion of a project
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, 3DS Max, and all Adobe programs and/or Google SketchUp
  • Experience with U.S. building design codes and material specific standards
  • Ability to think in a highly structured manner along all design disciplines while also having creativity to develop specialized solutions by anticipating potential challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related field (Required)
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license required
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • May require extensive periods of travel
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold)
  • Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
  • Occasional activity: Standing, Walking, Bending, Climbing, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling

Nice To Haves

  • Degree from a NAAB accredited architecture program (Preferred)
  • Master’s degree in architecture (Preferred)
  • 12+ years architectural experience (Preferred)
  • 5+ years people management (Preferred)
  • Cross-functional knowledge of the key engineering disciplines (Architectural, Civil, Structural, MEP) and relevant trades
  • General construction experience (Preferred)
  • Previous experience in proposal and client management with proven history in leading project pursuits and winning proposals (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction and leadership of the development of architectural designs, construction documents and specifications.
  • Serve as the Architect of Record for assigned projects.
  • Provide strategic direction, operational excellence and relationship management with all stakeholders for projects where JE Dunn provides professional design services.
  • Drive contracting and business development to meet or exceed all design targets.
  • Contribute to defining and guiding the strategic plan in partnership with departmental and regional leaders.
  • Be active in the community including conference attendance/speaking engagements and/or active memberships in associations.
  • Develop strategies for growth of the business.
  • Oversee the delivery of architectural design services, the development of culture and the execution of processes.
  • Manage professional service delivery, client management, project leadership, and technical guidance.
  • Oversee client relations, including project team performance and overall client satisfaction.
  • Interface and advise clients, manage staff and review technical documents.
  • Provide oversight through all aspects of a project’s lifecycle from planning, programming, design, construction documentation, contract administration through to project close-out.
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Client Solutions, and Operations to develop new opportunities and build relationships.
  • Increase JE Dunn’s industry profile through regular interaction with potential clients and industry associates as well as participating in industry organizations.
  • Develop and/or assist in defining overall team project pursuit plan and win strategy, including strategic proposal development.
  • Prepare conceptual designs as required for project pursuit submissions and client development.
  • Collaborate with regional leadership on furthering design build opportunities.
  • Encourage cooperation, sharing of skills and workload between employees and across project teams.
  • Serve as a leader to inspire the team, represent design excellence, and reinforce the national brand.
  • Act as a seller doer capable of generating work and creating long-term relationships and delivering long-term value to clients.
