About The Position

Incumbent is responsible for scheduling clinic patients for surgery and diagnostic procedures. Assures all necessary paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate departments. Assists in determining if the patient's source of funding covers proposed surgery/procedure and inquires about expiration dates. Determines that physician documentation reflects need for proposed surgery/procedure. Obtains surgery/procedure date and time based on physician availability and operating room schedule. Communicates effectively with patients in order to obtain demographic and financial data. Provides accurate wait time estimates when available. Acts as a liaison between admissions, other departments and operating room. Notifies departments, services, physicians and the patient if surgery/procedure date/time is rescheduled and updates all as necessary. Responsible for inputting demographic and financial data into the SMS System following basic computer flows and codes.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with computer registration and registration scheduling system
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate general understanding of medical terminology
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Must be able to travel to off site physician practices
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing
  • General knowledge of ICD9 and CPT codes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to interpret and understand various medical insurance plans and make accurate determinations regarding coverage
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
