About The Position

Emory Healthcare is seeking a Primary Therapist to provide high-quality patient care. This role involves psychiatric counseling, including group, individual, family, and marriage counseling, as well as discharge planning. The Primary Therapist will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, conducting diagnostic evaluations and interpreting psychosocial factors for psychiatric and addiction patients. They will apply psychiatric/psychological theories to practice, assess patient and family needs, and evaluate conflicts leading to symptoms. The role also includes providing emergency assessments, conducting therapy sessions and groups, documenting patient progress, completing discharge forms, and participating in team staffing. The position requires independent work at an advanced and specialized level, maintaining strict confidentiality, and ensuring the security of department files.

Requirements

A master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field and LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, LMHC, LPC, LAPC or License Eligible.
Completion of a comprehensive internship in a psychiatric setting.
Licensure must be received within 90 days of employment.
BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

Provides high quality patient care, displaying good skills in psychiatric counseling.
Provides group therapy, individual counseling, family and marriage counseling, and discharge planning.
Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
Provides diagnostic evaluations and interprets complex psychosocial factors for a variety of psychiatric and addiction patients.
Assesses the particular needs of psychiatric and addiction patients and their families when appropriate to the patient's treatment.
Assesses conflicts and problems leading to complaints and symptoms that bring individuals to inpatient/outpatient psychiatric/addiction treatment.
Provides emergency assessment of potential patients in need of inpatient hospitalization or other appropriate alternatives.
Conducts assigned groups and therapy sessions with patients and/or their families and documents per policy.
Makes referral to aftercare group therapy for former patients.
May conduct therapy sessions for Partial Hospitalization day or evening program or evening Aftercare groups.
Ensures that clear treatment plans are concisely written in the patient charts.
Writes follow-up progress notes on each patient chart at the completion of each activity or therapeutic exchange as observed, case annotations and entries.
Completes all program discharge and aftercare document forms on or before discharge date.
Maintains confidentiality of department and employee information according to established procedures with no breaches and/or errors.
Ensures the security of the department files at the end of each work day to protect confidential information.
Participates in team staffing on a daily basis.
Makes team aware of pertinent information gleaned from interaction with patients and/or their families.
Performs other related duties as required.
