About The Position

The SPED Teacher's role will be to create a supportive learning environment in which you will help your students meet their learning goals through interesting and diverse methods, successful strategies to reach IEP goals, and access grade-level curriculum. You’ll oversee their progress by tracking their assignment and exam grades to provide useful feedback. WCPA teachers are results-driven educators with experience in and commitment to standards-based curriculum and the use of data and assessments to drive instructional decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, required
  • A California Education Specialist Credential (mild/mod and mod/severe), required
  • Familiarity with and/or the ability to learn SIRAS, IEP writing, and Special Education reporting software
  • Familiarity with and/or the ability to learn RTI, co-teaching, collaboration, Push-In, Pull-out, Learning Lab Intervention, and small-group teaching models
  • Demonstrated mastery of classroom skills, including classroom management, planning, assessment, and instructional practice
  • Proficiency with various technologies and teaching tools

  • Demonstrates commitment to the community by communicating regularly with families and attending key community events
  • Administer first aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed students
  • May assist with toileting and diapering as necessary; may administer prescribed medication in accordance with established District procedure
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Preparing and implementing lesson plans that lead to student understanding based on state standards
  • Providing an effective learning environment that reflects and facilitates student achievement
  • Assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records
  • Writing and conducting IEPs and facilitating IEP meetings
  • Proctoring Formal Assessments (Woodcock-Johnson)
  • Updating Service Logs and Files
  • Communicate with partnering agencies
  • Participating in SST Meetings
  • Maintaining frequent communication with students, students' families, colleagues, and the Special Education Director
  • Participating regularly in professional development opportunities
  • Appropriately communicates and interacts with other professional staff in academic planning and school committee work
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and extra-curricular/school-related activities and committees
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and works with administrators to formulate and complete professional development plans
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behavior that is conscientious and responsible
