About The Position

The University of Wyoming is seeking a Primary Care Physician/Athletics Medical Director to provide sports medicine and primary medical care to eligible University of Wyoming (UW) students, including intercollegiate student-athletes, rodeo students, and members of the spirit squad. This role also involves providing emergency sideline physician services for athletic activities and medical supervision for staff athletic trainers. The position requires performing administrative tasks such as supervising and training healthcare professionals and students, and serving on Athletic Department/campus committees. Additional duties include maintaining AAAHC standards, working weekends/evenings/holidays as needed, and providing medical event coverage for away football competitions, basketball tournaments, and various home competitions.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from a US based institution.
  • Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine, family medicine, or emergency medicine.
  • DEA registration.
  • Temporary Expedited Medical License prior to employment and a full, unrestricted permanent medical license granted by the Wyoming Board of Medicine upon expiration of the Temporary Expedited Medical License.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality sports medicine and primary medical care to eligible UW students.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat, and monitor acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat, and monitor concussions as outlined in the UW Athletic Department Sports Concussion Education and Management Plan.
  • Order, conduct, and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe applicable medications/pharmaceuticals to treat conditions/illnesses.
  • Conduct sports physicals as needed.
  • Coordinate/communicate student-athlete plans of care with applicable department coaches/staff, sports medicine personnel, parents, etc.
  • Communicate with student-athletes in a supportive and comprehensive manner.
  • Collaborate/make appropriate referrals with outside providers/specialists regarding student-athlete plans of care to ensure both quality and continuity of care.
  • Coordinate care within health plan rules of the student-athlete (e.g., in-network, referral requirements, etc.).
  • Remain current with medical developments, procedures, and treatments.
  • Maintain patient records in compliance with UW policy.
  • Maintain compliance with confidentiality/privacy policies/procedures.
  • Perform administrative tasks including supervising and training of health care professionals and students (including Athletic Trainers) and serving on Athletic Department/campus committees.
  • Maintain and promote AAAHC standards.
  • Work weekends, evenings, and holidays (as needed).
  • Provide applicable medical event coverage for away football competitions including post-season events (e.g., Bowl Games, etc.).
  • Provide applicable medical event coverage for the Mountain West Basketball Tournament and other basketball post-season tournaments (e.g., NIT, NCAA, etc.).
  • Provide applicable medical event coverage at home competitions for football, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, wrestling, and other competitions/events as determined by the Director of Athletics/Designee.
  • Provide medical supervision of athletic trainers and direct supervision of the Director of Operations-Sports Medicine, which includes a performance evaluation, scheduling, hiring/non-renewal, and salary determination.
