About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking a Primary Care Paramedic for a temporary position. MHSW is responsible for the operation and management of EMS Services in Northeast Alberta. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, if applying to Lloydminster Positions
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s
  • Certified in and maintains CPR certification
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (Lloydminster only)
  • FARE Certificate required
  • Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
  • Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.
  • Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
  • Will advise director, and/or team leader, of injuries that will impair duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Conduct themselves in a safe and discreet manner, with the responsibility of conduct justification to patients, family members, hospitals staff, management, public agencies, legal court, and more.
  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.
  • Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
  • Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and skills, within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
  • Be punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the MHS - West chain of command.
  • Create and maintain fully completed patient care reports (ePCRs).
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
  • Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to Director of MHS - West or designate.
  • Develop and provide continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Maintain functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines, and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participate actively in MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
  • Actively participate in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
  • Maintain professional appearance of the approved uniform, and maintain hygienic and grooming standards.
