About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking a Primary Care Paramedic for a temporary position. MHSW is responsible for the operation and management of EMS Services in Northeast Alberta. Requirements

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, if applying to Lloydminster Positions
Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s
Certified in and maintains CPR certification
Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (Lloydminster only)
FARE Certificate required
Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.
Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
Will advise director, and/or team leader, of injuries that will impair duties.

Responsibilities

Provides immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities.
Maintains personal knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP) to deliver optimum patient care.
Safely operates MHS - West vehicles in accordance with the MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
Stocks and maintains vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
Works in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
Works with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
Documents all patient care, assessments, and skills within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
Is punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
Acts in a professional manner and handles conflict situations with good judgment.
Follows the MHS - West chain of command.
Creates and maintains fully completed patient care reports (ePCRs).
Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
Refers all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
Reports all incidents and completes written incident report forms to the Director of MHS - West or designate.
Develops and provides continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
Maintains functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines and AHS medical control guidelines.
Participates actively in the MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
Develops a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
Actively participates in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform, and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.
