About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking a Primary Care Paramedic for a temporary position. MHSW is responsible for the operation and management of EMS Services in Northeast Alberta. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, if applying to Lloydminster Positions
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s
  • Certified in and maintains CPR certification
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (Lloydminster only)
  • FARE Certificate required
  • Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
  • Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients.
  • Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments.
  • Will advise director, and/or team leader, of injuries that will impair duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provides immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Maintains personal knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP) to deliver optimum patient care.
  • Safely operates MHS - West vehicles in accordance with the MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stocks and maintains vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Works in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
  • Works with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
  • Documents all patient care, assessments, and skills within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
  • Is punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Acts in a professional manner and handles conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follows the MHS - West chain of command.
  • Creates and maintains fully completed patient care reports (ePCRs).
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refers all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
  • Reports all incidents and completes written incident report forms to the Director of MHS - West or designate.
  • Develops and provides continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Maintains functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participates actively in the MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develops a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
  • Actively participates in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
  • Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform, and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.
