About The Position

Are you passionate about advancing health equity and delivering patient-centered care to underserved communities? Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS) provides patient-centered, team-based primary care to residents of Western North Carolina. We are looking for a PRN Registered Nurse to provide as needed coverage for 16 to 30 hours weekly. We anticipate the PRN RN would be needed September through December 2026. The Registered Nurse would provide patient care at our primary location, Minnie Jones Health Center, 257 Biltmore Ave, Asheville, NC 28801 which is open 7:30 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or associate’s degree in nursing (ADN)
  • Strong communication, clinical assessment skills, proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), and the ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • BLS /CPR Certified

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an outpatient setting.
  • Familiarity with role of FQHC in the community.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care, in collaboration with the healthcare team, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic illness management.
  • Conducting physical exams, measuring vital signs, wound care, ear syringing, and administering immunizations/injections, completing co-visits with medical providers
  • Monitoring and managing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and hypertension, including medication adjustments based on protocols, and counseling.
  • Providing guidance on healthy lifestyles, managing illnesses, and preventive health measures.
  • Documenting medical histories, managing patient records, and coordinating care with other specialists.
  • Providing over-the-phone and in person triage to assess patient needs
  • Participates and/or leads quality improvement activities
  • Maintain current knowledge of clinical best practices, guidelines, and evidence-based standards, and integrate them into daily nursing practice.
