Under general supervision, the Advanced Practitioner is accountable for the clinical management of patients. This role requires a high level of analytical ability for assessing patients and implementing appropriate interventions, as well as substantial interpersonal skills for effective interaction with staff, physicians, patients, and family members. The position involves assuming responsibility for the initial evaluation and treatment of patients, performing initial history and physicals, writing standard orders, discussing findings with the attending physician and nursing staff, evaluating patient progress, and initiating referrals. The role also includes writing progress notes, establishing medical diagnoses, making immediate referrals for acute or life-threatening conditions, performing technical functions, monitoring patient response, acting as a clinical resource, supporting performance improvement initiatives, and participating in health teaching for patients and families. Educational advancement and continued certification are also key aspects of the role.
