About The Position

Stella Maris is a recognized leader in skilled nursing care, including outpatient rehabilitation and short-term rehabilitation. The nursing home facility is located on its campus in Timonium, Maryland.

The part-time Priest/Chaplain assists the Pastoral Care department in meeting the pastoral, liturgical, and sacramental needs of Stella Maris residents, patients, and families. The role provides liturgies and sacraments, spiritual counseling, rounds and visits to residents and patients, and support to families and staff. It also participates in care conferences, activity programming, support groups, and memorial and funeral services.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily, weekend, special, and seasonal liturgies that are appropriate and sensitive to residents’ and patients’ needs.
• Ensure the census is updated daily.
• Provide the Sacrament of the Sick as needed or requested, and conduct a communal anointing liturgy semi-annually.
• Provide the Sacrament of Reconciliation as scheduled and as requested; provide communal reconciliation liturgy twice per year.
• Provide sacramental ministry to St. Elizabeth Hall.
• Provide spiritual counseling as requested and conduct daily rounds to the sick and dying.
• Assist with planning and preside at seasonal liturgies and special services in the chapel and on units.
• Plan and participate in staff and family support groups, assist staff with resident and family crisis situations, participate in weekly staff patient-care/team conferences, and participate in programming unit activities.
• Visit Stella Maris and St. Elizabeth Hall residents who are hospitalized, as requested, and provide weekly hospital visitations.
• Work with Pastoral Care staff to provide funeral services, wakes, and interments that are sensitive to families’ needs.
• Provide annual memorial services for the nursing home and semi-annual memorial services for hospice.
