About The Position

The Ocean Pricing & Booking Manager is responsible for leading and developing a high-performing Pricing & Booking Representative (PBR) team focused on ocean import operations. This role combines hands-on operational execution, market intelligence, carrier and agent relationship management, and team leadership to ensure efficient cargo movement, competitive pricing strategies, and exceptional client service. This individual will oversee daily pricing and booking activities while maintaining a personal book of business and serving as a key escalation point for complex shipments, client demands, and operational challenges. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of international ocean import forwarding, carrier markets, and team leadership within a fast-paced logistics environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in international freight forwarding, with strong emphasis on ocean import operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to develop relationships.
  • Previous leadership or team management experience within pricing, operations, or import management.
  • Strong understanding of ocean carrier markets, pricing structures, capacity management, and import processes.
  • Experience working with overseas agents, origin offices, and carrier partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience utilizing freight forwarding systems, pricing platforms, and operational reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong commercial awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a personal book of business while operating at approximately 50–70% active PBR capacity.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Pricing & Booking Representatives supporting ocean import operations.
  • Hire, onboard, train, and mentor new team members on workflow processes, KPI expectations, pricing and booking systems, SOPs, customer requirements, carrier capabilities, and market conditions.
  • Review and approve pricing activity for new hires during onboarding and ramp-up periods.
  • Maintain strong relationships with overseas agents, carriers, and origin offices to stay informed on market trends, capacity conditions, and pricing changes.
  • Partner closely with sales teams to support new business development, customer retention, pricing strategies, and carrier selection decisions based on customer needs and market conditions.
  • Monitor team productivity and KPI performance including quote activity, booking volume, conversion ratios, and pipeline development.
  • Balance team workload and coordinate staffing coverage to ensure operational efficiency and uninterrupted service.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for operational issues, complex shipments, customized reporting requests, and high-priority client situations.
  • Organize regular meetings with sales and operations teams to review opportunities, at-risk accounts, and performance initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture while identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
