GENERAL POSITION OVERVIEW Responsible for maintaining department and company standards for ocean freight contract negotiation and management thereof. Be able to respond to rate quotes on a timely basis in order to meet critical deadlines as required by our customers and potential customers. Monitor bookings and contract performance within your assigned region, observe KPI management for pricing and field sales, and make various data reports on a regular and ad hoc basis when required. Ensure service contracts are in full compliance with FMC regulations and company standards. Must be flexible with vastly changing international and local market conditions.

Requirements

  • This position requires a high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and interpersonal skill.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, learn quickly, have strong organizational skills, and organize multiple tasks and deadlines are required.
  • Good emotional intelligence, effective communication with co-workers, managers and counter parties and self-management.
  • Must be a team player and willing to adapt to new tasks and projects.
  • Creativity/innovative thinking, excellent research skills, and solution development is required in the job.
  • Excellent computer literacy is required.
  • Advanced knowledge MS Excel.
  • Proficient in other MS Office including Outlook, Word and Power Point.
  • Excellent math and analytical skills
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Requires 2 years of experience in the shipping industry or related analytical field

Nice To Haves

  • Containerized ocean carrier experience and knowledge of FMC laws and requirements is not required, but requested
  • bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Quote rates for assigned region from Transpacific Eastbound origins (Asia) to USA and Canada.
  • Familiarize and execute company and customer contracting requirements when bidding.
  • Maintain department and company standards for turn time for all work assignments.
  • Respond to all bid business as required by management.
  • Maintain basic KPIs for contract performance as guided by management.
  • Proactively offer feedback to sales regarding rate levels where appropriate.
  • Keep up to date on all market feedback, external trends, and rate levels from essential elements.
  • Monitor booking performance to ensure rate requests are successful.
  • Maintain contracts to ensure full regulatory compliance with FMC requirements and company standards.
  • Assist other pricing desks as required.
  • Some overtime is required during contract negotiation season.
  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance for accounts as required.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments to complete tasks.
  • Work diligently with sales in your region to determine terms and conditions and rates for prospective contracts
  • Assist sales on call-in trainings to streamline processes associated with the job functions.
  • Ability to learn through side-by-side training as well as on the job via doing the functions necessary for this position
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
