About The Position

Coordinates and facilitates domestic violence primary prevention initiative activities, such as domestic violence education/awareness presentations, community action team meetings, and multi-session curriculum delivery. Drafts domestic violence awareness and prevention-oriented materials. Provides support and assistance to child/youth survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of primary prevention of domestic violence.
  • Ability to work well with children, youth, and adults.
  • Ability to become and remain authorized to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirements.
  • Ability to draft marketing materials and use social media.
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with participants and community agencies.
  • Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and timelines.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics.
  • Knowledge of resources and agencies in the community.
  • Ability to effectively educate/speak to groups of people in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Two years of college coursework from an accredited college or university in a relevant field, or Two years of experience working in a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State driver’s license is required.
  • Successful completion of Domestic Violence Core Competency training within 90 days of employment.
  • Favorable background screening.
  • Level 2 DCF screening

Nice To Haves

  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing annual prevention plan and tracks activities.
  • Coordinates and facilitates domestic violence prevention initiative activities.
  • Conducts prevention programming with youth, parents, and/or community members.
  • Engages with various community partners on prevention activities.
  • Drafts ongoing domestic violence awareness and prevention-focused marketing to include multiple vehicles for distribution – such as social media, brochures, flyers, calendars, etc.
  • Distributes brochures and related materials in the community.
  • Facilitates groups for youth and children and youth served by the program.
  • Facilitates other educational and recreational activities for children and youth served by the program.
  • Participates in learning calls and training events.
  • Provides support and assistance to survivors of domestic violence.
  • Provides information and referral information to survivors and community members.
  • Assists in coordination of any special events conducted by this program to raise crime victim awareness.
  • Assists in seasonal projects.
  • Attends required staff meetings.
  • Completes employee training to meet requirements according to contract specifications.
  • Performs other related work as required.
