About The Position

The Prevention Navigator is responsible for supporting the team and community by facilitating and engaging individuals and communities in services and education regarding substance use, sexual health, and behavioral health principles through the engagement of cultural events and other activities that promote healing and recovery for all people.

Requirements

  • Education and professional experience in substance use, prevention, psychology, social work, public health, and/or mental health-related fields is desired; equivalent to a minimum of 2 years
  • Has a strong understanding of Prevention Services principles.
  • Lived experience is desired
  • Training in trauma informed care, crisis prevention, de-escalation, and prevention desired
  • Must be willing to be certified in HIV / HCV screening / testing through DHHS.
  • Must have or be able hold and maintain an active BLS/CPR certification
  • Must have ability to facilitate groups and trainings as needed in Bangor and Millinocket
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.
  • Requires sitting, standing, reaching, and occasional pre-approved travel across Wabanaki communities
  • Must Pass all required background checks
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to motivate staff
  • Logical problem solver who can operate under constraints
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to support multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Have strong cultural competency skills / ability to meet people where they are/ trauma- informed
  • Willingness to travel with some overnights for training, meetings, gatherings, and events.

Responsibilities

  • Develops content in collaboration with the Prevention Services team to support events, awareness days, and observances
  • Plans specific cultural activities and events related to prevention
  • Identifies opportunities to bring Wabanaki culture into program offerings
  • Develops and facilitates cultural groups based on best practices
  • Coordinates cultural connection opportunities to support recovery-ready communities initiatives
  • Supports with outreach engagements, activities, and opportunities including community clean-up’s, testing, and educational prevention programming
  • Maintains training and certifications to support program needs, including CTR (Counseling, Testing, Referral) training through ME CDC to support HIV/HCV testing and linkage to care
  • Prepares prevention resources and educational resources on harm reduction and prevention information, opioid overdose prevention, recovery supports and connections, and more in collaboration with team and manager to support identified programmatic needs
  • Attends and participates in individual and team check in’s, staff meetings, and meetings as required from grantors or program support
  • Collaboration with community and community partners to support programs and services
  • Other duties, as assigned by Manager of Prevention Services and/or Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness Leadership
