About The Position

Liberty Resources is seeking a full-time Caseworker for its Oswego Preventive Services Program. Liberty Resources is a dynamic human services agency that offers great career opportunities, benefits, and a supportive atmosphere. The role of a Preventive Caseworker is to assist families in creating goals and working towards self-sufficiency while avoiding involvement with the legal system. This is achieved by meeting families in their homes to provide social casework activities that address economic, emotional, social, and environmental difficulties. This role offers flexibility and autonomy, opportunities to learn about complex systems, home-based client interaction, and daily variety. Support is provided through bi-weekly supervision, assistance from the Department of Social Services, and mobile work tools (hot spot, laptop, iPad).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience working in a school- and/or home-based setting providing services to individuals and/or groups.
  • Experience working with families and their needs.
  • Must have valid New York State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Is sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral, written and public speaking communication skills.
  • Must also possess strong problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills and exhibit a high level of self-confidence and responsibility.
  • Must be able to work with complex systems (ex. Probation, Family Court, Foster Care) and have knowledge and/or experience with both the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
  • Ability to work independently and with flexibility in days and hours of work.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and have a valid driver’s license.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and lift objects of up to 10lbs as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience doing home-based work in a rural setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess children for risk, develop and implement service plans addressing the risk factors.
  • Advocate on behalf of children and families to ensure adequacy of services by providing linkage and coordination with county providers and agency.
  • Work with Family Court as needed through drafting reports, testifying, and locating foster care placements.
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with other service providers and community organizations in the interest of client and program goals.
  • Provide services while practicing cultural humility. Empowers clients by using their cultural strengths and informal networks in service delivery.
  • Complete various reports and paperwork in a timely manner to document work done.
