About The Position

The Office for Civil Rights and Equity within the Division of Human Resources and Inclusive Excellence is seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Prevention and Education Coordinator (Student Services Professional IV) and advance our ongoing commitment to foster and maintain a campus environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. We are searching for a driven, proactive, and ethically minded individual to assist with the prevention and investigation of all forms of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual exploitation, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and practices of the program area to which assigned or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge.
  • General knowledge of the policies, practices, and activities of Student Services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
  • General knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel and fiscal management.
  • General knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods.
  • Ability to carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions.
  • Ability to advise students individually or in groups on varied and complex matters.
  • Ability to determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.
  • Ability to reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems of one or several program areas.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations.
  • Ability to analyze and define complex organizational, policy or procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action.
  • Ability to understand the roles and responsibilities of others and to gauge relationships accordingly by taking into account the variety of the interrelationships, motivations and goals of the members of the organization served.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of full-time, professional relevant experience in public health, violence prevention, advocacy, student services, social work, or education.
  • Experience working within a higher education environment.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, Clery, and California and/or CSU prevention education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess evidence-based prevention and education programs, initiatives, and awareness campaigns designed to prevent sexual misconduct, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, retaliation, and discrimination and harassment based on age, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, nationality, pregnancy or related conditions, race or ethnicity (including color, caste, or ancestry), religion or religious creed, sex (including sex stereotyping or sex characteristics), sexual orientation, and veteran or military Status.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Office for Civil Rights and Equity’s campus-wide strategic prevention and education plan in accordance with relevant federal and state laws and systemwide CSU policies.
  • Create training materials, deliver presentations and interactive workshops, and design tailored outreach to educate students and employees on their rights, options, responsibilities, and resources related to Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, related laws, and CSU policies.
  • Conduct annual trainings for fraternities, sororities, Division I Athletics teams and employees, sports clubs, residential communities, identified student organizations, employees and student staff who have responsibilities for responding to alleged misconduct, and underserved populations.
  • Help develop the Prevention and Education team’s community-wide and audience-specific primary prevention efforts, including: bystander intervention programs, educational outreach, awareness programs, workshops to promote awareness of relevant CSU policies and foster a culture of care and shared accountability, events acknowledging critical awareness months, and an annual one-day violence prevention conference.
  • Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners.
  • Develop solutions to unique and complex technical and administrative matters.
  • Plan programming strategically and creatively.
  • Carry out complex tasks, at times without detailed instructions.
  • Engage student and employee audiences, use discretion in delivering sensitive training materials, and analyze and solve operational challenges in managing CSUF’s campus-wide prevention and education efforts.
  • Be responsible for all stages of research, program development, event planning, facilitation, and assessment of such programs.
  • Supervise and/or advise undergraduate and graduate student assistants and peer educators in their programmatic and operational responsibilities.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends and make recommendations for program improvements.
  • Participate in on-campus, CSU systemwide, and community-based committees that address and prevent discrimination and harassment based on protected statuses, sexual misconduct, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation.
  • Remain well-informed on Title VI, Title VII, IX and related laws, campus and CSU systemwide policies, and best practices for prevention education that are trauma-informed, evidence-based, and culturally responsive.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
