About The Position

The Preventive Maintenance Technician at the Whitewater Center plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of all activity areas. This includes grounds, structures, aquatic facilities, and activity-specific equipment. The technician is responsible for routine inspection, cleaning, organization, and minor repairs to ensure all areas are operationally ready, safe, and presentable for daily use. Work is performed year-round in an outdoor environment. Technicians are on-site and can either be hired as full-time, benefits eligible employees or part-time seasonal employees reporting directly to the Outdoor Activities Maintenance Manager.

Requirements

  • Familiar with quality and safety standards set by the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and other relevant organizations.
  • Strong background in working at heights, rigging, ropes course management, carpentry, or other related fields.
  • Experience working safely and effectively with hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to contribute to a specialized, team-oriented work environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during other Whitewater events as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage the preventative maintenance program for land-based activities in alignment with departmental goals.
  • Notify Department Head of any outstanding or incomplete tasks within the maintenance program.
  • Maintain mulch and gravel areas; return clean material to appropriate pits.
  • Rake and fluff mulch areas; ensure bases of structures are free from excess mulch.
  • Monitor and manage trash in all land activity zones; maintain bins in working order.
  • Maintain functionality of outdoor drains.
  • Ensure all fences in activity zones are secure and in good condition.
  • Organize and maintain storage areas for land activities.
  • Conduct regular inspection and inventory of ropes and related gear.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and follow an established cleaning schedule.
  • Keep gear boxes and storage sheds clean and organized.
  • Manage trail maintenance: block unauthorized paths, repair erosion using natural materials, and consult with Department Head for solutions.
  • Oversee maintenance of pool deck and surrounding areas (note: water quality managed by separate team).
  • Clean pool walls, including edges beneath walls, to remove dirt and algae buildup.
  • Ensure functionality and cleanliness of ladders, signage, fencing, gates, skimmer baskets/lids/boxes, and other equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the concrete pool deck.
  • Keep chemical and pump rooms clean, secure, and organized.
  • Conduct routine inspections of activity structures as directed by the Department Head.
  • Ensure all signage is maintained and in good condition.
  • Create and adhere to a cleaning and staining schedule for all wooden structures.
  • Perform minor structural repairs or maintenance projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
