About The Position

This position involves maintaining a safe work environment, performing routine machine maintenance, and operating manual lathe and milling machines. The role requires attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently. The technician will be responsible for inspecting work areas, cleaning, and ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with safety rules and procedures. They will also be responsible for operating and maintaining manual lathe and milling machines, reviewing specifications, taking measurements, planning work sequences, monitoring output, and performing machine maintenance and repairs.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent
Trade certificate
Minimum of 2 years of machinist work experience
Mathematical skills and analytical abilities
Ability to lift to 50 pounds continuously throughout the shift
Work involves lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting
Strong commitment to safety
Strong mechanical aptitude
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
Self-motivated
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Good written & verbal communication skills
Good work ethic
Analytical in nature
Strong problem solver
Good troubleshooting skills
Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail
Education and experience in using and maintaining manual lathe and milling machine
Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers and indicators) to take accurate measurements
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, manuals
Cognitive and mental ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail

Vocational school or apprenticeship
Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Responsibilities

Evaluate and take appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines.
Inspect work areas and look for unsafe acts/conditions.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Perform sweeping and cleaning duties as necessary.
Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
Operate and maintain manual lathe and milling machines.
Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output.
Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping.
Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of job.
Monitor output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects.
Perform routine machine maintenance and repair minor/major damages.
