About The Position

The Vessel Department Supervisor supports the Manufacturing Manager in overseeing all operations related to pressure vessel fabrication. This role is responsible for coordinating daily activities, assigning personnel, ensuring compliance with ASME standards, maintaining safety, and achieving production goals within schedule and budget constraints. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of vessel fabrication processes, the ability to interpret fabrication drawings, and hands-on experience with fitting, welding, and material handling using forklifts and overhead cranes.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret ASME vessel fabrication drawings and related engineering documents.
  • Strong working knowledge of vessel fitting and welding processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW and SAW.).
  • Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes for moving large vessels and assemblies.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written communication).
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple fabrication projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to enforce safety and quality standards.
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, Outlook, production tracking systems).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII and IX requirements.
  • 5+ years in pressure vessel fabrication or heavy manufacturing.
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in a certified ASME fabrication shop.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Manufacturing Manager in daily production planning and coordination.
  • Assign personnel to specific projects and tasks based on skill, experience, and job requirements.
  • Organize and schedule overtime as necessary to meet production deadlines.
  • Oversee the layout, fitting, welding, and inspection of vessels to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and ASME procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Control Manager to coordinate internal inspection activities and verify all production hold points and traveler sign-offs are completed.
  • Review project drawings, materials, and documentation for completeness prior to fabrication; clarify discrepancies with Engineering or the Manufacturing Manager.
  • Gather and deliver raw materials to workstations and move finished products to the warehouse using forklifts or cranes.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of consumables, stock items, and fabrication materials.
  • Ensure all required tools and equipment are operational and available for use.
  • Transfer completed vessels to the testing area, ensuring nameplates and documentation are ready for Hydrostatic and Pneumatic testing.
  • Verify that all assigned tasks are completed according to schedule and within budgeted hours.
  • Monitor and promote safety practices within the department; ensure a clean and organized work area.
  • Support the qualification of vessel welders or fitters.
  • Participate in production and scheduling meetings, providing updates on vessel progress and resource needs.
