About The Position

The Press Operator works with a team at Gannett Publishing Services’ Wilmington regional print facility to prepare and operate Goss HO presses and their components. The position also involves cleaning presses and the pressroom, maintaining press mechanical readiness, and performing other duties as assigned. The pressroom team works toward high-quality printed products, adherence to scheduled start and stop times, conservation of materials—especially newsprint—and a clean, safe working environment. This is a fast-paced manufacturing operation requiring basic mechanical or manufacturing skills. The role is full-time shift work and may include scheduled nights and weekends. Pay is $20 per hour, based on work-related experience.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to push and pull up to 2,000 pounds.
• Ability to spend most working hours on one's feet and to stand for long periods.
• Ability to climb stairs on a six-level press structure.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for some maintenance and cleaning work; work may take place in confined areas.
• Color vision.
• Ability to adapt to change, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, remain flexible, and interact with people while demonstrating patience.

Nice To Haves

• Three years of experience in web offset printing is desirable.
• Production experience of any kind may be helpful.
• Mechanical ability and familiarity with computers are preferred.
• Basic mechanical or manufacturing skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team to prepare presses for production.
• Operate presses or their components.
