Requirements

  • Job requires ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to read and interpret written work which indicates the number and sequence of machine operations required to complete the work and maintain dimensional accuracy in accordance with instructions provided.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematics (i.e. decimals, metric units) to understand dimensional requirements contained in job orders and to make more complicated adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Dispose of all waste materials properly, record necessary information regarding wastes or chemical use on appropriate logs, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Keep the press area orderly at all times, using any downtime to clean and maintain the pressroom.
  • Maintain and lubricate the press according to the procedures outlined in the maintenance document.
  • Wash up the press, correctly mount wash up trays into print units, remove ink from fountains and wash ink out of rollers using proper chemicals, clean ink knives, end blocks, and fountain, clean and return wash up trays to the proper area, return unused ink to the designated area and properly discard non-returnable ink.
  • Safely operate stacker/bundler, install strapping material and palletize finished bundles, remove full pallets from the press area, pull copies during the run and perform quality checks, check bundler copies for quality issues, pull and number control copies, ensure all press equipment is adjusted and running correctly, and complete all documentation and checklists.
  • Read the quality plan and web the press, check plates for imperfections and hang plates, engage blanket washers and check washer cloth, compare sigs to blue lines, samples, or color proofs, adjust and set ink/water balance and ink density, ensure folds are square and free of imperfections, adjust the press register, ensure the proper person is available for press checks, complete and apply press check labels, obtain the old web press checklist and coordinate with customers for OKs.
  • Engage print units and remotes, correctly install end blocks and hang blankets, check water flow to units, and set and adjust the dampening system and rollers.
  • Adjust paper feed guides to the stacker, set jogger width and stacker belt tension, adjust stacker and table speeds, center strapping on bundles and set bundle length, and change strapping reel as needed.
  • Set nip rollers, change and/or adjust cut blades, head perfs, tucker blades, adjust and set workbook perf, folder pins, cutting rubber, spine perf, shear pins, and stripping fingers, set the former board and/or divert compensators to the paper size, and check and adjust the chopper for the correct fold configuration.
  • Open rolls and save tags, inspect rolls for damage, correctly insert and inflate the roll shaft, hang and align rolls, web up the press from the roll-stand to the folder, and set web guide sensors to match the correct paper width.
