About The Position

The Pre-K Instructor serves as the lead teacher for a classroom of children, ensuring a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment while supporting children's growth and school readiness. The position also supports the ECEC's role as a university-based teaching site by mentoring students and maintaining compliance with state licensing and NAEYC accreditation standards. The Pre-K Instructor serves as the lead teacher for a classroom of three-year-old children at the Early Childhood Education Center and is responsible for providing high-quality early childhood education in alignment with developmentally appropriate practice, state licensure requirements, and NAEYC accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum that supports cognitive, social-emotional, language, and physical development of children.
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes exploration, curiosity, and positive behavior.
  • Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of children's development and use data to inform instruction and communicate progress.
  • Foster supportive relationships with children, communicate regularly with families, partner with families to support each child's individual needs and developmental goals.
  • Mentor student workers, practicum students, and interns from the HDFS program and related disciples.
  • Model best practices in early childhood education.
  • Collaborate with ECEC staff and HDFS Faculty and interdisciplinary partners to support teaching, research, and outreach activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure classroom practices meet Louisiana state licensing regulations and maintain compliance with all health safety, and supervision standards.
