About The Position

All Iowa City Community School District teachers are responsible for meeting the academic, physical, and socio-emotional needs of their students, in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Utilization of developmentally appropriate practices is an expectation. The teacher will create an environment that facilitates learning, personal growth and care and is expected to establish positive working relationships with all staff members as well as parents. This role involves creating a learning environment based on current research in early childhood, following Iowa Early Learning Standards, participating in the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards process, and implementing district curriculum and assessment, including Creative Curriculum and Creative Curriculum GOLD Assessment. The teacher may develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for eligible students, conduct ongoing progress monitoring, and collaborate with assigned paraprofessionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
  • Valid Iowa teaching license and endorsement as required by the state
  • 1001: PK-3 Birth through grade three, Inclusive Setting

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a K-12 education system preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement daily and long-range lesson plans that align with state standards in whole group, small group, and individual student experiences appropriate to the needs of each child.
  • Teach the district approved curriculum using district adopted instructional materials.
  • Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes learning and encourages student participation.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and support staff to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs.
  • Evaluate children’s intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records and assist in preparing progress reports.
  • Provide immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.
  • Communicate with parents through home visits, conferences and other means to discuss a child’s development and interpret the school program.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.
  • Supervise students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work-day.
  • Fulfill conditions in the negotiated agreement.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
  • Create a learning environment based on current research in the area of early childhood.
  • Follow the Iowa Early Learning Standards to provide developmentally appropriate practices for all preschool children in the classroom.
  • Participate in the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards process.
  • Implement district curriculum and assessment, including Creative Curriculum and Creative Curriculum GOLD Assessment.
  • May develop Individualized Education Programs for students eligible for special education.
  • Conduct ongoing progress monitoring as prescribed in the IEP and make instructional adjustments/accommodations as needed.
  • Collaborate with assigned paraprofessionals on a daily basis to ensure student needs are being met.
