About The Position

The Support Teacher creates a dynamic and engaging classroom environment and collaborates closely with the Lead Teacher to nurture and guide children from infancy through age 12. The role supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development in a childcare and early learning setting. The teacher adapts activities and materials to children’s diverse needs and interests, attends to basic care needs, and helps maintain a safe classroom.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Meet HHS minimum education and experience requirements.
• Meet DFPS Licensing minimum age, education, background check, and medical qualifications for caregivers.
• Complete annual training required by DFPS Licensing.
• Maintain Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
• If transporting children, hold a Class C driver license with a clear Department of Public Safety record and complete two hours of transportation training annually.

• Prior teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead activities that promote children’s physical, mental, and social development, including games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
• Build relationships with children through courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
• Enforce classroom behavior rules and ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Plan and conduct activities that balance instruction, demonstration, and work time, allowing children to observe, question, and explore.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet children’s diverse needs and interests.
• Greet children as they arrive, assist them with removing outerwear, and offer engaging activities to begin their day.
• Attend to children’s basic needs, including feeding, dressing, and diaper changing, as needed.
• Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
• Participate in occasional local travel for training or staff development activities, as required.
