About The Position

Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program at North Harrison Elementary School in Ramsey that supports young children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment. Responsible for lesson planning, family communication, student assessment, documentation, special events, and compliance with program, school, and state requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time management, stress management, analytical, problem-solving, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching to individual and classroom needs.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in ways students understand.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds or more.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to supervise children in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.
  • Ability to work at the child’s eye level, including sitting on the floor, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and turning.
  • Must be able to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
  • Maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and Preventing Disease Transmission.
  • Complete 15 hours of in-service training annually.
  • Understand and teach Indiana state standards.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of vehicle liability insurance.
  • Complete all state-required trainings.
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or state-mandated licensing/certification such as the Child Development Associate credential (CDA).
  • One year of child care experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a preschool program with culturally diverse, age-appropriate activities that introduce math and literacy concepts and support classroom discipline.
  • Greet children upon arrival and departure and maintain ongoing communication with families about progress, activities, and expectations.
  • Ensure a safe, orderly, nurturing, and sanitary classroom environment, including supervising children at all times and reporting suspected abuse or safety concerns.
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom materials, lesson plans, bulletin boards, schedules, and supply inventories.
  • Write and carry out lesson plans using The Creative Curriculum and include activities that support cognitive, language, motor, social, and self-help development.
  • Administer student assessments in the fall, winter, and spring; maintain records and discuss results with parents/guardians.
  • Assist with enrollment, demographic information, attendance, medicine logs, incident reports, and other program documentation.
  • Plan and participate in conferences, special events, parent newsletters, board reports, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Attend staff meetings, complete required trainings, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain professional relationships with school personnel, administrators, families, and agency staff.
