About The Position

Assist the Preschool Teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate preschool program for young children at Blue River Services, Inc., supporting physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment. Responsible for assisting with lesson planning, child greetings, safety oversight, classroom sanitation, student assessments, documentation, special events, and compliance with program and state requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with shared responsibilities and outcomes.
  • Strong stress management and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching skills to individual and/or classroom needs.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to carry 40 pounds or more.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to supervise children visually and auditorily in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips.
  • Ability to position self at the child’s eye level (sit on floor, sit in small chairs, crawl, kneel, twist, turn).
  • Must actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
  • Maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and Preventing Disease Transmission.
  • Complete 12 hours of in-service training per year.
  • Understand and teach ISTAR-KR standards.
  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or equivalent (required).
  • Previous experience in an elementary or early childhood program (required).

Nice To Haves

  • Child Development Accreditation (CDA) or other related degree/credentialing (highly preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Preschool Teacher with implementing developmentally appropriate activities for children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs.
  • Greet all children upon arrival and departure.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, nurturing, and stimulating classroom; sanitize equipment and report hazards.
  • Ensure constant safety and supervision of assigned children indoors and outdoors.
  • Report suspected child abuse through proper channels.
  • Act as a role model—get to the child’s level to listen and respond to individual and group needs.
  • Lead group activities (per teacher instruction) using varied mediums to build skills.
  • Teach social and self-help skills during mealtimes, modeling good nutrition (food is not used as reward/punishment).
  • Assist with classroom setup, organization, labeling, and bulletin boards.
  • Support lesson plans with cognitive, motor, self-esteem, problem-solving, language, and health-focused activities.
  • Assist with fall, winter, and spring student assessments.
  • Complete paperwork: attendance, medicine logs, food program, incident/accident reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality for children, parents, staff, and agency.
  • Assist with enrollment, demographic collection, and graduation ceremony planning.
  • Communicate clearly at the child’s level and follow emergency procedures.
