Preschool Teacher (Early Learning Center)

About The Position

Meeting Street is seeking a full-time Preschool Teacher for 40 hours per week at its Early Learning Center. The role supports children of all abilities and promotes their emotional, social, and developmental growth in a safe, welcoming classroom that reflects each student’s family, culture, and community. The teacher creates and implements a diverse, active-learning curriculum with developmentally appropriate experiences and accommodations or modifications as needed, using the RI Early Learning Development Standards as guidance. The teacher monitors children’s development through observation and data collection, uses the information to guide curriculum, and helps assistants, volunteers, interns, and students develop as early childhood professionals. The position also supports applicable accreditation, quality-rating, and licensing requirements and requires ongoing supervision of children indoors and outdoors. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, or a related field with experience and 24 early childhood course credits.
Valid CPR and First Aid training or certification.
Ability to work in an inclusive childcare setting.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk continuously during the workday; bend, stoop, and squat continuously; and kneel and reach above shoulder level occasionally.
Ability to lift, transfer, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds independently, or up to 100 pounds with assistance from another staff member or adaptive equipment, frequently.

Nice To Haves

Two or more years of experience caring for children under age 5 is preferred.
RIELDS Foundations 9 Domains & Guiding Principles and both RIELDS Preschool Classrooms: Instructional Cycle & Curriculum and Planning certifications, or willingness to obtain them within the first year of employment.
ECERS training, or willingness to complete the courses within the first nine months of employment.

Responsibilities

Provide a safe, welcoming classroom that reflects students’ families, cultures, and communities.
Facilitate interactions among children that support emotional, social, and developmental growth.
Create and implement a curriculum that promotes diversity and active learning through developmentally appropriate experiences, making accommodations and modifications as needed and using RI Early Learning Development Standards as guidance.
Assign, monitor, address, and evaluate the duties and responsibilities of teacher assistants, volunteers, interns, and students, and assist in their development as early childhood professionals.
Monitor each child’s developmental progress through observation and data collection, using Teaching Strategies Gold or other data-collection software as needed.
Use developmental data to inform and develop curriculum.
Participate in and support efforts to maintain NAEYC accreditation, BrightStars quality rating, and compliance with Rhode Island DHS and Department of Education licensing regulations.
Maintain supervision of children indoors and outdoors, follow licensing ratios, and conduct headcounts every 15 minutes.
Diaper, toilet, and assist children with feeding and dressing.
