About The Position

Under general supervision, the Preschool Student Assistant Teacher’s primary responsibilities are to provide safe and appropriate care, guidance, and supervision of children. This includes developing interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively and respectfully with children. The Student Assistant Teacher carries out responsibilities required by daily routines and assigned tasks such as but not limited to meal and napping routines, diapering/toileting procedures, care and supervision of equipment and supplies, and housekeeping tasks. Under the guidance of the head teachers, the Student Assistant Teacher helps set up and maintain a safe and nurturing environment that provides support, comfort, challenge, and predictability for children.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
• General working knowledge of the Associated Students, its programs, activities and services.
• Reading, writing, mathematical, and reasoning abilities appropriate to the position.
• Ability to develop trusting relationships with children and to demonstrate respect for and acceptance of children.
• Must be capable of working under pressure and handling multiple requests simultaneously.
• Must demonstrate eagerness and capacity to learn.
• Successful completion of a fingerprint background check (live scan).
• Must meet state health requirements: physical exam, tuberculosis test, TDAP, MMR, and flu shot.
• Must be able to attend staff meetings every Friday from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
