About The Position

Responsible for planning, programming and instructing preschool programs. Locations: Frank McKechnie CC and Meadowvale CC. Successful candidates would need to be available for a minimum of 1 of the following: Monday Afternoons, Saturday Mornings, or Various evenings.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of age before their start date
  • Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR B or C certification (or higher) from a WSIB approved provider.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Employment offer is conditional upon receipt of a Level III - Vulnerable Sector Check from a Police unit that is acceptable to the City of Mississauga.

Nice To Haves

  • A diploma/degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent is considered an asset
  • Two years working experience with pre-school aged children is considered an asset
  • Physical literacy training is an asset
  • A dynamic, outgoing individual with an aptitude for working with pre-school aged children (Birth to 5 years of age).
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Supervisor, Community Programs the successful candidate will instruct a comprehensive preschool program as outlined by the Recreation and Culture Division to meet the needs of all participants and to ensure adequate safety while facilitating leisure activities.
  • Support the objectives and philosophies of preschool programs through quality instruction that meets the needs of the customer.
  • Prepare and plan lessons that reflect the learning objectives of the course and support physical literacy where applicable.
  • Ensure program supplies/equipment is available and in good condition.
  • Provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to parents, participants, volunteers and staff.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all registered participants. To maintain supervision of participants at all times and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants by adhering to department safety standards and assisting with emergency procedures as required.
  • Prepare and maintain additional administrative records as required. (i.e. facility checks, attendance, accident/incident reports).
  • Maintain cleanliness of program area and equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with Program Supervisor or designate to ensure program needs are being met.
  • Attend and participate in trainings and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Complete all mandatory job required learnings
  • Incorporate and model the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery where appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Hourly Rate/Salary: $18.69 - $22.25
