About The Position

The Preschool Aide will assist in the supervision of children ages 3-5 years of age, plan and implement activities for participants.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or a high school graduate
  • 3 units in Early Child Development required within 120 days of employment
  • Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions
  • Completion of Child Abuse Prevention on line training prior to working with participants
  • Health and Safety training within 60 days of hire
  • A physical and TB test within 7 days of hire
  • Must provide proof of current measles (MMR), pertussis (TDap), and influenza immunizations within 7 days of hire
  • Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety & Health Institute

  • Experience working or volunteering in a child care setting highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Supervise participants, ensuring their guidance and safety
  • Assist the Preschool Teacher in the supervision and implementation of the daily program at YMCA Preschool in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
  • Communicate in a positive manner to all participants, parents, community members and co-workers
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld
  • Interact with participants in a positive manner while being consistent, fair and treating them with dignity and respect according to the YMCA Code of Conduct
  • Assist in the general housekeeping of the program space and food preparation
  • Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in active sports and games with children, monitor behavior requiring separation and interact in curriculum activities and housekeeping responsibilities
  • Must be able to relate well to both children and adults. Ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity
  • Must be highly dependable and flexible with daily schedule
  • Must have a warm and friendly personality, while having sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population
  • Willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance with the program and branch goals
