About The Position

The City of Pleasanton is excited to announce an opportunity for a caring and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Preschool Aide in the Library and Recreation Department. In this part-time, temporary role, you will support teachers in providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging preschool experience for young children in the City’s Gingerbread Preschool program. Typical assignments include assisting with classroom activities, supervising children, preparing materials, supporting daily routines, maintaining an orderly learning environment, and helping children learn and explore through play. This position offers a rewarding, hands-on environment where your work helps create positive early-learning experiences for Pleasanton children and families every day!

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
  • Some experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, recreation, camp, classroom, or similar setting.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team while also taking initiative and completing assigned tasks independently.
  • Patient, nurturing, dependable, and able to maintain a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Able to follow direction, classroom procedures, and safety practices.
  • Skilled in communicating clearly and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Organized and attentive to detail, with the ability to help maintain classroom materials, activity areas, and daily routines.
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to a play-based program that supports each child’s individual development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced or interested in working with preschool-aged children in a classroom, recreation, childcare, or similar setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with the supervision and care of children in a preschool classroom setting.
  • Support the implementation of age-appropriate, play-based activities that encourage learning, growth, exploration, and social development.
  • Help prepare classroom materials, learning centers, snacks, and activities.
  • Assist children with daily routines, including transitions, clean-up, indoor and outdoor play, and other classroom activities.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Encourage positive behavior, social interaction, and participation among children.
  • Communicate observations and concerns to the teacher or supervisor as appropriate.
  • Perform related duties that support the successful operation of the Gingerbread Preschool program.
