About The Position

Idaho Falls Community Hospital is looking for a Prep Cook After Hours to join our team! This role involves preparing food items for recipes, back stock, the salad bar, Vision Cooler, and soups for the following day, all under the direction of the After-Hours Chef de Tournant. The position also includes maintaining kitchen cleanliness. Requirements

  • High school graduate (or equivalent).
  • Food Handler’s Permit (required within 30 days of employment).
  • Entry level position – will train the right person for skill set.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of food for café/restaurant customers, patients, and special functions.
  • Use food safety techniques in accordance with FDA and Health Department standards, including proper hand washing, temperature monitoring and recording, and correct storage and handling techniques.
  • Prepare food back stocks for the following day's orders in a timely manner, ensuring items are prepared to established par values, dated with appropriate expiration dates, and following FIFO procedures.
  • Pull needed items from the freezer in adequate time for proper thawing.
  • Prepare items for the Vision Cooler, ensuring proper stocking, rotation, and dating.
  • Prepare Oatmeal and Sausage gravy, and ensure daily soups for patients and the café are panned and ready to cook.
  • Check in deliveries, put away all delivered items in their designated spots, and use FIFO.
  • Organize all storerooms (freezers, fridges, dry storages) at least twice a week.
  • Participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and café facilities.
  • Use daily and deep cleaning assignment schedules according to hospital, District Health Dept, State of Idaho, and Food & Drug Administration requirements.
  • Maintain equipment utilized in a clean, safe, and sanitized condition.
  • Clean all frequently used equipment weekly (ovens, pizza oven, behind the grills, fryer, etc.).
  • Participate in the maintenance of department records.
  • Record food and refrigeration temperatures in temperature logs according to department procedures and policy.
  • Use daily production records, recording amounts of prepared food and leftovers to assist in planning appropriate food quantities.
  • Document all waste on the waste log.
  • Participate in continued education, training, and maintenance of Food Handlers’ Permits.
  • Maintain current Food Handlers’ Permit.
  • Complete standard Idaho Falls Community Hospital (IFCH), Nutritional Services Department, and position-specific Health Stream educations in a timely manner.
  • Participate in intra and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Participate in a short Huddle meeting under the direction of the Sous Chef and/or Nutritional Services Manager to review important information, held as needed.
  • Attend regularly scheduled Nutritional Services staff meetings (mandatory unless excused).
  • Seek clarification on any information not understood from missed meetings.
  • Attend additional meetings as needed.
  • Check emails regularly for updates/changes, a minimum of twice per week.
  • Be a team player.
  • Follow policies and procedures of IFCH and the Nutritional Services Department.
  • Participate in the development and attainment of departmental goals.
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of IFCH and the department by performing assigned duties and assisting others.
  • Contribute to a positive work culture.
  • Assist in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Projects as requested, including data collection.
