About The Position

The employee supports the teacher, meets students’ needs, and helps ensure quality instruction. The role includes providing one-on-one academic and behavioral assistance, leading small-group activities, and helping the lead teacher with housekeeping and clerical duties. The employee also assists with student supervision and safety, classroom instruction and planning, student records, screening and enrollment, and home visits. The position is full-time and reports to the Principal.

Requirements

At least six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education, or two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
Willingness and eligibility to obtain a CDL driver’s license with P/S endorsements at the next bus driver training opportunity.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise move objects.

Nice To Haves

An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is preferred but not required. This may include two years of study at an institute of higher education, determined to be 48 semester hours.

Responsibilities

Assist the teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
Participate in daily and long-range lesson and activity planning.
Monitor student safety, well-being, attitudes, behavior, and discipline; encourage self-esteem and increasing independence.
Conduct learning exercises with small groups of children.
Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
Alert the teacher to individual children’s special needs and provide assistance as necessary.
Help maintain individual records for each child.
Foster good eating habits and table manners.
Assist the teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
Assist with supervising children during regular play periods.
Collect and display suitable materials for educational displays.
Remain knowledgeable about current Pre-K issues by attending staff development and reading current literature and publications.
Assist with screening students for possible Pre-K participation or enrollment.
Accompany and assist the teacher on home visits.
Be willing and eligible to obtain a CDL driver’s license with P/S endorsements at the next bus driver training opportunity.
Perform other related work as required.
