About The Position

The Prefab Engineering Intern will support design and process engineering for prefabricated electrical assemblies within Hays' prefab shop operations. This role blends engineering and manufacturing, giving the intern hands-on exposure to how modular electrical assemblies are designed, built, quality-checked, and shipped to job sites.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and production processes
  • Comfortable working in a shop/production environment
  • Strong problem-solving and process-improvement mindset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • CAD experience a plus
  • Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodology
  • Exposure to CAD/drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks)
  • Interest in modular or prefabricated construction methods

Responsibilities

  • Assist with design and drafting of prefabricated assemblies, including racks, skids, and modular units.
  • Support bill of materials (BOM) creation and revisions.
  • Support process improvement initiatives in the prefab shop.
  • Assist with quality control checks on assemblies before shipment.
  • Help coordinate shop layout and workflow efficiency projects.
  • Support production scheduling and tracking.
  • Work with Estimating, BIM/VDC, and Field Operations to ensure prefab designs align with field installation needs.
