About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Preconstruction & Business Development Manager to lead and elevate our estimating and preconstruction efforts. This executive-level role is responsible for overseeing the preconstruction department, developing client relationships, and driving long-term growth through innovative, accurate, and competitive bid strategies. The ideal candidate is not only technically proficient in excavation and civil construction but also passionate about mentoring team members and representing the company in business development efforts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience preferred with a strong background in estimating and preconstruction.
  • 5 years of proven success in business development or sales in construction, civil engineering, or renewable energy industries.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams with a focus on mentorship and professional growth.
  • Strong business development acumen and ability to confidently represent the company in client-facing settings.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the preconstruction team to enhance performance, foster career growth, and develop a dynamic team.
  • Establish clear goals, training plans, and development paths for junior and senior estimators.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, learning, and collaboration.
  • Oversee all preconstruction efforts including budgeting, estimating, constructability reviews, value engineering, and subcontractor engagement.
  • Ensure the accuracy, competitiveness, and strategic alignment of all project bids and proposals.
  • Evaluate risks, costs, and timelines with a focus on strategy and long-term growth.
  • Serve as a key representative of the company in pre-bid meetings, presentations, and relationship-building with clients, engineers, and general contractors.
  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities and clients.
  • Drive sales efforts by contributing technical knowledge and market insight.
  • Partner with project management and operations leadership to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to execution.
  • Contribute to company-wide strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting related to pipeline growth and resource allocation.
