About The Position

The Preconstruction Engineer supports the Preconstruction Department by assisting with estimating, bid preparation, constructability reviews, and project coordination for both hard bid and negotiated work. This position plays a key role in delivering accurate estimates, managing preconstruction schedules, and ensuring client satisfaction in alignment with the company’s mission, vision, and core values.

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or 5 years of equivalent experience).
  • Experience using on-screen takeoff software or other graphic software.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction systems and cost structures.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel), estimating software, and plan management tools.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and proactive.

Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify scope, risk, and constructability issues.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop cost estimates using estimating software.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids; prepare bid comparison matrices.
  • Manage prequalification of subcontractors and maintain bid lists.
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals, pricing forms, and final deliverables for both hard bid and CM/DB projects.
  • Support development and maintenance of preconstruction and design schedules.
  • Conduct constructability and value engineering reviews; prepare RFIs and reports as needed.
  • Participate in client, design, and internal coordination meetings; maintain accurate meeting records.
  • Prepare meeting agendas and coordinate bid scope workshop meetings.
  • Collaborate with Operations to transition awarded projects, ensuring all documents and scopes are properly handed off.
  • Maintain accurate estimating data and support ongoing database and pricing updates.
  • Uphold safety, quality, and company standards on all assigned tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
