Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Precollege Initiatives Program Coordinator at its Detroit campus location. Essential functions (job duties): The Precollege Initiatives Program Coordinator supports the implementation and day-to-day operations of the Warriors on the Rise program,which includes coordinating events, communications, logistics, and participant engagement to ensure a high-quality, student-centered experience aligned with established program goals. This role also serves as a K–12 liaison for youth programming across campus, connecting campus partners with Enrollment Management recruitment and yield efforts to support pipeline development and student engagement. Additionally, The Program coordinator for Strategic Pathway Initiatives will assist in the development of a university policy that outlines procedures for maintaining a safe campus environment for minors on campus. The coordinator works closely with prospective students, families, and campus partners, and collaborates with Student Success, Support and Engagement and Enrollment Management to contribute to recruitment and yield activities. This position reports to the Sr. Director for Multicultural Student Engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferably in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • 3+ years of job-related experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs or Customer Service is preferred.
  • Experience in managing/coordinating events and programs is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written abilities, with effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Comfortable in communicating with prospective students, parents, school administrators, and counselors in person and by telephone and email.
  • Effective public speaker with informative and persuasive speaking skills.
  • Excel in formulating clear and concise email messages.
  • Demonstrated ability to create outreach messages that help achieve yield goals.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to compare contrast and quality check work with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills including critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with standard office tools (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation creation), research abilities to find relevant materials using online search tools, and database management systems.
  • Organizational Skills: Able to effectively manage multiple priorities to accomplish required productivity goals.
  • Capable of using CRM to maintain documentation of outreach activities and results.
  • Teambuilding: Capable of identifying and collaborating with key university stakeholders, providing initial communication of relevant issues to team, then monitoring progress of further development.
  • Demonstrated capability of working as an integral member of a goal-oriented, data-driven enrollment management team.
  • Results Focus: Emphasize activities that lead to effective results focused on established goals in market segments to meet University enrollment and retention goals.
  • Use data-driven decision-making model to assess effectiveness, analyze results, and shape future projects.
  • Seek out additional opportunities for the outreach program and its partners that may deliver further results.
  • Technology: Proficient in using technology to develop, implement, track, and analyze programs designed to maximize outreach efforts using student information systems (Banner and Slate), CRM functionality, and other tools, as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to aggregate and analyze data to evaluate outcomes towards set performance goals.
  • Experience with database query and table design.
  • Extensive working knowledge of up-to-date Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Records and Registration processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and day to day operations of the Warriors on the Rise program, including coordinating program events, managing participant communications, assisting with the logistics and event execution and guide program peer mentors.
  • Ensure program activities and outreach efforts are executed in alignment with established program goals, timelines, and strategic priorities.
  • Support K–12 partnership and pipeline development efforts by serving as a liaison between Enrollment Management and campus and community partners, fostering relationships that expand youth engagement opportunities and strengthen pathways to Wayne State University.
  • Coordinate outreach and cross-promotional efforts for K–12 programming, assist in identifying and capturing prospective student leads, and help ensure alignment of activities with recruitment and yield goals.
  • Enter and oversee data using various technical resources including the university’s customer relationship (CRM) software to ensure timely and accurate tracking of student interactions, inquiries, and follow-ups, facilitating efficient resolution of issues, and maintaining comprehensive records to support enrollment goals.
  • Maintain organized records to track engagement and event attendance.
  • Record expenditures, such as give-away items and supplies.
  • Build reports to document performance and provide statistical analysis of outcomes in comparison to divisional goals for increasing enrollment and retention.
  • Coordinate and represent Wayne State University at off-campus outreach events, including evenings and weekends, while providing guidance and information to students, families, and community members and connecting them with campus resources.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of university resources as well as effective working relationships with staff in the Enrollment Management units.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
