This position provides strategic technical leadership and vision for the portfolio. This role focuses on identifying and developing next-generation technologies, architectures, and concepts to maintain and expand Raytheon’s competitive edge. The Technical Director acts as a key interface with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and industry partners. Our Close Combat and Maneuver Systems portfolio team in Tucson, Arizona is actively seeking an Investment Program and Pursuit Lead with a passion for pioneering technology and a vision for shaping the future of defense. The ideal candidate will thrive in this high-visibility role, interfacing with warfighters, critical suppliers, and Federal Laboratories to define what's next in composable, autonomous and collaborative systems. This is a full-time remote position.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior technology development experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing new products, processes, and standards.
  • Experience with multi-pronged technology development utilizing company internal investment funds.
  • Experience developing and delivering executive level communications.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued SECRET security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • An understanding of Close Combat Weapons Systems, Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, Army Maneuver Systems and key component elements.
  • Experience engaging and working with external customers that influence future competitive contracts and selection.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and effective personal interaction and collaboration with engineering team and customers.
  • Cross-Product Team (CPT) leadership.
  • Proposal Writing and Basis of Estimate (BOE) development experience.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the generation of new surface-to-surface strike technologies and apply the broad resources of Raytheon and Partners to maturation of those technologies.
  • Mature through investment and smart partnerships advanced composable kinetic close combat and next-generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile solutions.
  • Develop and champion a long-term technical roadmap for the portfolio anticipating future customer needs and technology advancements.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies with potential applications to the portfolio, including areas like advanced mobility, autonomy, composable power, navigation fusion, and advanced communications.
  • Lead and participate in strategic capture efforts, provide technical expertise and guidance for proposal development.
  • Identify strategic investment and corporate development opportunities to accelerate technology maturation and expand market presence.
  • Cultivate relationships with key technical personnel within government agencies, research institutions, and industry partners.
  • Represent Raytheon at technical conferences, symposia, and customer meetings as a thought leader.
  • Mentor and guide engineering staff, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Monitor and analyze competitor activities, identifying potential threats and opportunities.
  • Oversee Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects, ensuring alignment with the overall technical strategy.
  • Collaborate with Program Mangers and Chief Engineers to ensure smooth transition of new technologies into existing programs.
  • Lead technical responses for White Papers, Request for Information, and Requests for Proposals associated with new growth opportunities.
  • Develop technology demonstration plans and interface with external partners and customers to mature those plans.
  • Drive the execution of that strategy across multiple programs.
