About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Precision 5-Axis CNC Machinist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. You will be working closely in a collegial atmosphere with a small group of highly skilled machinists and engineers producing high precision microreplication tooling that supports a wide range of businesses across 3M. Initially, you will be working weekdays on first shift to complete on-the-job training (OJT) with our experienced machinists. Once your OJT is completed, you will move to working a first shift weekend schedule. This job has the potential to be the start of a rewarding, long-term career at 3M with opportunities for advancement while maintaining hands-on involvement with the interesting and dynamic technologies that you will work with every day.

Requirements

  • Possess a two-year degree or higher in Machine Tool Technology (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year of combined precision machining experience on CNC lathes and/or mills including programming and editing G&M code CNC part programs (combination of academic and/or industrial experience) in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Nice To Haves

  • Diamond-machining experience on multi-axis CNC machines.
  • Strong abilities with Siemens Nx CAD/CAM as well as able to Write, modify, and optimize CNC programs using G-code, Macro and CAM software.
  • Experience with precision metrology methods, including interferometry, profilometry, and confocal microscopy.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills, with an emphasis on data-driven decision making, supported by basic math, trigonometry, mechanical aptitude.
  • Self-starter with a hands-on approach to problem solving that can work independently with minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment.
  • Possesses strong organizational, time management, and professional communication skills, along with familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A background in tool and die making.
  • Experience supporting CNC machine maintenance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up cutting tools and other associated equipment to produce machined parts.
  • Performing test-cuts to determine machine offsets and other process parameters.
  • Doing metrology and inspections as part of the set-up work and determining whether machined parts meet specifications.
  • Providing input and feedback to the engineering staff regarding plans for or results of machining projects.
  • Performing minor maintenance tasks and troubleshooting of milling equipment.
  • Complying with corporate policies, procedures and security standards while performing assigned duties.
  • Contributing to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
