The Precertification Specialist is responsible for identifying patients requiring pre-certification or pre-determination, obtaining necessary information and documentation from various systems, and contacting insurance companies or employer groups to secure these authorizations. This role involves determining eligibility and benefits, following up on insurance issues to ensure financial resolution, and coordinating with internal teams to communicate outcomes and patient financial responsibilities. The specialist must maintain current knowledge of payor requirements, coding, and regulations, utilize computer software effectively, and meet department productivity and accuracy standards while adhering to patient confidentiality policies. They will also communicate with provider offices regarding peer-to-peer reviews and ensure accurate documentation of all patient encounters. The position requires the ability to work independently, provide training and mentoring, and potentially work alternate shifts, weekends, and overtime during peak periods. Participation in educational programs for professional growth is also expected.
