About The Position

The Precertification Specialist ensures the effective and efficient use of services by monitoring appropriateness and medical necessity and providing information required to authorize diagnostic testing with multiple insurance providers. The specialist verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, obtains deductible and coinsurance amounts, and secures precertification or authorization for outpatient diagnostic testing and other services as needed. The role promotes teamwork with all members of the healthcare team and is performed in a manner consistent with St. Luke’s mission and values.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the appropriateness and medical necessity of services.
• Provide information needed to obtain authorization for diagnostic testing from multiple insurance providers.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
• Obtain deductible and coinsurance amounts.
• Obtain precertification or authorization for outpatient diagnostic testing and other services as needed.
