About The Position

The 2nd Shift Pre-Stage Technician is responsible for preparing tooling by studying work orders, quality envelopes, specification drawings, and production parts. This role involves gathering necessary tooling, parts, tools, and materials, ensuring all tooling is properly stamped before release to production. The technician will lift, position, and secure tooling, review and maintain logs and check sheets, and perform tooling inspections and preparation. They will also be involved in the installation and removal of tooling for various stations, perform post-production inspections, and make minor repairs to tooling and equipment. Additionally, the role supports the overall maintenance of pre-staging equipment, verifies specifications using measuring instruments, and maintains supplies inventory. The technician will ensure master tooling is properly labeled and segregated, communicate production issues to the next shift, assist with on-the-job training, and take corrective action for machine stoppages, notifying supervisors of serious issues. Safety and cleanliness are paramount, requiring recognition and correction of hazards, adherence to safety policies, and participation in Lean Manufacturing Events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical abilities and knowledge of the thermoforming machine operation.
  • Capable of lifting an average of 75 lbs.
  • Capable of solving problems and making quick decisions.
  • Strong skills in interacting and directing the work of others.
  • Ability to look at data and configure any problems that may approach.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and comprehensive skills.
  • Adequate math skills.
  • Leadership attributes.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. by hand or device.
  • Ability to twist, bend, climb, and be on feet the majority of the workday.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares tooling by studying Work Order, Quality Envelop, Specification Drawings, Production Part; gathering tooling, parts, tools and materials.
  • Ensures all Tooling is properly stamped with CR# before releasing Tool to Production.
  • Lifts, positions, and secures tooling on carts or work tables, using cranes/hoist.
  • Reviews and maintains any required logs, check sheets, inspection sheets, and work orders.
  • Performs Tool Inspections and preparation, and knowledge of Tool Install of Forming Station, Trim Station, Strip Station, Stacker Station and Tool Removal.
  • Performs post production tooling inspections and locate to proper area; repair or storage.
  • Performs minor repairs to tooling and equipment.
  • Assists in the overall maintenance of the Pre-Staging equipment.
  • Verifies specifications by measuring completed part and/or tooling using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measure and dial indicators.
  • Visualizes and computes dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of tooling and equipment, based on specifications.
  • Keeps equipment operation by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains maximum utilization/up time on machinery in assigned areas.
  • Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Assures that master tooling is properly labeled and segregated for ease of accessibility.
  • Communicates any production issues to next shift Process Technician for Pre-Staging.
  • Assists on-the-job training and coaching as needed.
  • Takes immediate corrective action for any machine stoppage; notifies Supervisor and requests maintenance assistance in the event of serious problems with machinery of parts and assists in problem solving if other personnel are required.
  • Recognizes and corrects safety hazards as they are identified.
  • Maintains assigned zone in a clean and orderly condition; follows all safety policies and procedures including lockout/tagout, GMP practices to meet company standards.
  • Participates in Lean Manufacturing Events as required.
