About The Position

The Pre-Procedure Nurse (RN) within the Vascular & Interventional Center (VIC) is responsible for the safe and efficient preparation of patients undergoing Vascular & Neuro-Interventional & Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, and Pulmonary at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. This role supports a high-volume, high-acuity procedural environment by ensuring patients are clinically optimized, educated, and prepared prior to procedures. The Pre-Procedure RN supports care across: Eight (8) Vascular & Interventional procedure rooms Five (5) GI and Pulmonary procedure rooms Additional Radiology procedural support services The nurse must demonstrate strong assessment skills, adaptability, organization, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Virginia
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved)
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in PACU, ICU, ED, procedural nursing, pre-op, or critical care nursing

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Experience in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, Neuro-Interventional services, or procedural prep/recovery
  • Moderate sedation experience
  • EPIC EMR proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive pre-procedure nursing assessments including medical history review, medication reconciliation, allergy verification, lab review, and procedural readiness assessments.
  • Prepare patients for procedures involving moderate sedation, anesthesia, and advanced interventional techniques.
  • Verify informed consent completion and ensure all required documentation is completed prior to procedures.
  • Establish and maintain IV access as needed.
  • Coordinate with physicians, advanced practice providers, anesthesia teams, technologists, scheduling teams, and procedural staff to optimize patient flow and procedural readiness.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedure expectations, sedation preparation, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • Identify and communicate abnormal findings or concerns that may impact procedural safety or scheduling.
  • Support procedural throughput by maintaining efficient patient preparation and minimizing delays.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient education within EPIC.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention standards, patient safety initiatives, and Sentara policies and procedures.
