Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and meet one of the following Illinois DCFS Director qualifications: Option 1 Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in: Early Childhood Education, or Child Development Option 2 64 semester hours of college coursework in any discipline, including: Minimum of 21 semester hours in Child Development and/or Early Childhood Education PLUS one of the following: Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential 3 semester hours of college credit in Child Care Administration or Leadership 3 points of credential-approved training in Administration or Leadership
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children ages 3–14.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Passion for working with children and supporting staff development.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid Driver's License or State ID.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Current physical examination and TB test (or ability to obtain).
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Proof of active Gateways Registry membership.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 20–50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • The Child Care Director must successfully complete a Department-approved training course of six (6) or more clock hours on providing care to children with disabilities. Training must be approved by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). A certificate of completion must be maintained on file. Newly appointed directors must complete this training within 36 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and guide on-site instructors and coaches in delivering high-quality STEM, Arts, Sports, and enrichment programming.
  • Ensure compliance with all Illinois DCFS licensing requirements and BAM! policies.
  • Supervise daily operations of the program site.
  • Maintain student safety and compliance with all check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, training, and support.
  • Ensure proper staff-to-student ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Maintain required licensing documentation and site records.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student participation and program updates.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with school staff and administration during program hours.
  • Support classroom instruction and provide direct supervision of students when needed.
  • Manage student behavior using positive behavior support strategies.
  • Respond to incidents, injuries, parent concerns, and operational issues.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Program Manager and Licensing Team.
  • Participate in program setup, licensing inspections, and compliance audits.
  • Ensure all staff complete required trainings and maintain current certifications.
