Pre-K Art Teacher (Early Childhood Art Educator)
About The Position
La Mere Academy is a high-quality early childhood education program dedicated to fostering creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. We are seeking a passionate and creative Pre-K Art Teacher to inspire young learners through hands-on art experiences that encourage self-expression, imagination, and artistic exploration. The Pre-K Art Teacher is responsible for planning and leading engaging, age-appropriate art lessons for children ages 3-5 years old. The ideal candidate understands child development and uses a variety of artistic mediums and sensory experiences to support creativity, fine motor development, problem-solving skills, and self-confidence. This position works closely with classroom teachers to enrich the curriculum through visual arts and creative expression while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in a childcare, preschool, private school, or educational setting.
- Passion for art education and early childhood development.
- Ability to create engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to lift, bend, sit on the floor, and actively engage with young children.
Nice To Haves
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
- Experience teaching art, music, enrichment, or creative programs to young children.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate art lessons for preschool and Pre-K students.
- Introduce children to a variety of art techniques, materials, and creative processes.
- Encourage creativity, self-expression, and imagination through open-ended art experiences.
- Integrate art activities with classroom themes, seasonal events, and educational units.
- Foster appreciation for colors, shapes, textures, patterns, and artistic exploration.
- Display student artwork throughout the school to celebrate creativity and learning.
- Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
- Manage small and large groups of young children during art activities.
- Use positive behavior guidance techniques to encourage participation and cooperation.
- Ensure all art activities are developmentally appropriate and safe.
- Support fine motor development through painting, drawing, cutting, sculpting, collage, and other creative activities.
- Encourage communication, social interaction, and confidence through artistic expression.
- Recognize and nurture individual creativity and learning styles.
- Adapt activities to meet varying developmental levels and abilities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe art classroom or art area.
- Manage and inventory art supplies and materials.
- Follow all childcare licensing regulations and school safety procedures.
- Ensure proper cleanup and sanitation of materials after activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support school-wide learning goals.
- Participate in school events, family engagement activities, and art showcases.
- Communicate professionally with families regarding student participation and projects.
