About The Position

The Andersen Institute for Economics and Finance is seeking two pre-doctoral research assistants to contribute to its mission of shaping discussions on pressing global economic and financial issues. These roles will focus on projects related to technological change, climate transitions, geopolitical fragmentation, and public debt. The Institute aims to foster intellectual leadership, influence public discourse, and provide strategic direction to business decision-makers. Two specific positions are available: Applied Microeconomics, focusing on AI's impact, firm behavior, labor markets, and policy evaluation using micro datasets; and Macro Finance, examining macro-financial issues with an emphasis on digital finance, global asset markets, and fiscal/monetary policies. Research assistants will work closely with PhD economists, actively engage in the research process, and receive mentorship and career guidance. This is a full-time, two-year appointment designed for candidates intending to pursue PhD programs in economics, finance, or related fields.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, data science, computer science, or a related field, with demonstrated coursework in economics
  • Strong background in econometrics and quantitative methods
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language (Stata, R, Python, or MATLAB), with the ability to write efficient, well-documented, and reproducible code
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Some experience working with LLM tools for research
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis upon hire
  • Will not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future

Responsibilities

  • Collection, cleaning, and construction of large-scale datasets
  • Econometric analysis using modern empirical methods
  • Coding models and simulations
  • Preparation of research outputs, including figures, tables, presentations, and their accompanying descriptions
  • Producing literature surveys
  • Developing and deploying LLM tools across the whole research production process
  • Work closely with PhD economists and engage actively in the research process
